What I actually do

Local-first infrastructure is the through-line. If your smart home, security system, or automation stack requires the internet to function, it's not infrastructure — it's a dependency. I run Linux servers (Ubuntu, Docker, Nginx) and design systems that keep working when the cloud doesn't.

The QA mindset shows up everywhere: no duplicate triggers, failure paths that fail safe, logs that mean something, edge cases covered before they become incidents at 3am.

Coyotes Vision

Coyotes Vision is the flagship project — a full local-first home automation and security stack built on Home Assistant. Frigate NVR runs on-prem with AI object detection. CVBot is a custom HA component (not a stack of automations) that handles camera ops, presence tracking, package delivery, multiroom audio via Snapcast, and a voice relay called Yaper that plays your Telegram voice messages through every speaker in the house. Alerts use randomized text pools so the same event never sounds mechanical. The whole thing wraps into a native Android app (CVApp) with OTP login and persistent session.

None of it touches a cloud unless you explicitly want it to. No subscriptions, no vendor lock-in, fully documented and exportable config.

Stack

Linux & Infra: Ubuntu Server, Docker + docker-compose, Nginx, WireGuard, VLANs, static routing, bash — the daily drivers. Windows Server/AD and SMB when the job calls for it.

Automation: Home Assistant, Jinja2, Telegram Bot API, Frigate, event-driven Python scripts, cron, webhooks.

Dev: Python, HTML/CSS/JS, YAML, Bash; Git when it actually helps.

QA: test design, log hygiene, flaky-killer, reproducible bug hunts. "No duplicate triggers" as a design principle, not a post-mortem item.

Projects

  • Coyotes Vision — local-first home security and automation. Cameras, presence, audio, packages, voice. No cloud.
  • Escapism Project — never meant to be a doom mod.
  • Doom of ВИD — a cursed Russian TV mod from 2012 that somehow survived.
  • Full Effect — rolling a custom 2.5D engine because the existing ones felt wrong.
